I’ve noticed there’s a big difference between the female and male ventriloquist. The male has a lot more to do with it, but I also think you need to know a bit more about how the male ventriloquist’s act works.
What kind of personality makes a woman a good ventriloquist? Well, the most obvious aspect is the woman who can talk, and do it so well, that a woman can fill a room or a stage with a crowd of men. Her delivery is simple and direct, with her facial expressions and body language being a perfect match for the male’s. She gets laughs, is entertaining and charming; the male’s delivery is like a performance, and often comes across as “a bit rehearsed.” She has to have a great voice, otherwise it will fall flat, whereas with the male, the voice is just amazing.
The other major aspect of why you’d want a female ventriloquist is that she can play a character that would require a more advanced level of coordination and physicality — something the man can’t do. The male ventriloquist has to look good, while the woman can show the men what they’re missing.
She may be very young, but she will have a much more powerful personality than someone 30 or 40, because all of those kids have gone through puberty, and are more developed physically and mentally.
What I found most important about becoming a ventriloquist is to have an understanding of what the work involves. I learned that the reason for it isn’t only to earn money: in fact, it may be the biggest motivator for some. Ventriloquism has been an important part of Western culture that has always fascinated me, and I have always been fascinated with the art of ventriloquy.
One day, I was standing on a street corner, just going about my day (no real explanation as to why, although some people do talk about it). Suddenly, I realized I was hearing someone speak, and when I turned around, there was this girl sitting on a bench; her hands were tucked under her chin and she had a smile on her face. I started taking video on my iPhone, but before I could even take the picture, one of her feet came down on the sidewalk. I stopped filming immediately, fearing that she might injure herself or others, and I then quickly stood back up and continued walking to find a place to sit on.
