Do professional photographers use Lightroom or Photoshop? – Learn Photography

Yes, they do. Professional photographers use it daily, even for the occasional photo-shoot. It’s a very simple system to use and, after some practice, is more powerful and efficient that other photo-stills. You will also notice that it gives you more power over the final photos, as the system adjusts the exposure based on time of day, light, mood of place, etc.

But there is much more power and accuracy of Lightroom to be gained through Photoshop. When you do post-processing in Photoshop, your images are automatically saved along with a color profile, making the process much more effective. It is also very important to know when making adjustments to your images that Lightroom will automatically save them as the most accurate version possible. This makes your digital photos almost like a professional photo-journalist’s workstation.

If you don’t already know Lightroom or Photoshop, there are some great courses on the Web site of Adobe that will really help you to learn Lightroom and Photoshop in a fun and entertaining way. You can also check out a great beginners series on YouTube here.

What are the pros and cons of Lightroom and Photoshop?

Lightroom is very easy to use, and in my opinion worth every penny spent on it. The biggest drawback (outside of the price) is the fact that not everyone can afford Adobe’s software. As such, if you are just getting into photography, or just starting out, chances are that you won’t use Lightroom. However, if you are an experienced professional, and have Adobe’s product line, I really suggest taking classes in Lightroom. You will be amazed at the results when you finish and have more control over the final image. That is where Photoshop would be most helpful.

My personal opinion; Lightroom is an extremely powerful tool. It allows you to do incredible things to your images that Photoshop cannot. In the end, the pros would always prevail.
