The term flapper comes from the Spanish word flan, from fla (a flapper) and fop (a flapper). The term has been around for hundreds of years, and in some places, it was used as a derogatory term for the feminine.
Do flappers wear makeup?
I don’t find this to be a common theme, but I was once asked about the issue with a woman I knew. I told her that the fact she had makeup on was hardly something I wanted to see.
Some women who wear makeup aren’t too proud to show it off. In the past, flappers would use their makeup to show who they are outside of that society. Today, it’s often used for political purposes; it’s not about being pretty and trying to present herself.
What does flapper speak like?
Flapper speaks like an African-American woman in the 1950s. She would get into her car and say things like “Where the girls at?” (when she felt insecure). She’s a very talkative woman, but she’s also very independent and she has an intense social conscience.
How do flappers look?
Flappers are all different. We have our own unique style styles. As a result, we can look very different from one another but we can all look the same.
Flappers often wear the same clothing. In fact, some of the biggest celebrities in the world, like Tina Fey, have florists and are photographed at their homes. This is not so different from how a young couple might dress at a wedding.
You were born in New York City. Do you have a favorite place in New York City?
The main New York City location that I have made it home to since I was five and a half years old is the Empire State Building. I still love the museum and the park that I see all the time. There is always something new on the museum’s site.
Flapper is an international brand. What is a foreign culture like for you to be familiar with?
I don’t think you have to know a culture to become an expert on it. We think of flappers as a type of individual, but that’s not all the women are. We see the flapper as an individual, but some of the characteristics of flappers are different from other women.
